Aim: To gain an understanding of how to write a cover letter for a job application.

 

The level of language knowledge: B2.

 

Description: When submitting a job application, jobseekers should always include a cover letter (or letter of application) in addition to a CV. In these exercises, you will examine different types of cover letters, reflect upon the content of cover letters and order a jumbled letter into a logical sequence.

 

The following exercises will help you understand what the core skills are and will help you identify examples of how these skills can be demonstrated.

 

Learning outcomes: By the end of these exercises you will be able to:

  • Distinguish between two types of application letter.
  • Identify appropriate content for cover letters.
  • Recognise appropriate ways to open and close a letter.
  • recognise a logical order for a cover letter.
