Lifelong Learning: What does it mean?

Education (formal, non-formal, informal)

 

Aim: Raise the learners’ awareness about the importance of lifelong learning and the necessity to develop the 8 key competences..

 

The level of language knowledge: Level B2.

 

Description: Lifelong learning has become a necessity for all citizens. We need to learn new things at home and at work, in order to function effectively day-to-day in a rapidly changing world. Whether it is learning to use a new phone, a new app, or a new process at work, building skills is a constant need. The European Parliament and the Council in 2006 adopted a European Framework for Key Competences for Lifelong learning. The Framework identifies and defines the 8 key competences which all individuals need for personal fulfilment and development, social inclusion, active citizenship and employability in our knowledge-based society.

 

Learning outcomes: At the end of this exercise you will:

  • Become aware of the importance of lifelong learning.
  • Have developed an understanding of what the 8 key competences are.
  • Have considered the areas for your own personal development.

 

Expected duration: About 45 minutes.

 

Task(s): Task 1: A. Watch a video about the importance of lifelong learning; B. Choose the appropriate answer (TRUE or FALSE) to each of the question below.
